About Us
Founded by a group of like-minded youths from Humla district of Nepal, READI is committed to its mission of empowering people to transform their lives. Operating solely with the dedication of volunteers, the organization seeks financial support and collaboration from partners. Those eager to contribute can do so through donations or sponsorships. Individuals interested in furthering our cause can easily become members of the organization.
Currently, READI is actively supporting under-privileged children in basic education, water and sanitation, health related campaigns and humanitarian support.
Empowering for Life and Work: Through a blend of formal and informal education, along with skills training, we equip young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead more productive and self-sufficient lives.
Delivering Humanitarian Aid: In times of urgent need, we respond promptly and efficiently. We address food security and water requirements, and promote safe sanitation and hygiene practices within communities. In the aftermath of the April 25, 2015 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, our immediate response provided relief aid to the most affected villages in Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, and Gorkha. We distributed essential supplies, including equipment for temporary shelter, along with food, medicine, and other necessities.
Revitalizing the Economy: A resilient community thrives on a robust local economy. We focus on bolstering local economies and safeguarding communities by advocating for and marketing local resources such as tourism, agricultural products, handicrafts, and more. Additionally, we establish direct connections between these products and national and international markets. The "Humla Delights Bakery and Coffee Shop" in Simikot serves as a model, showcasing how rural economies can enhance local livelihoods through the promotion of traditional cuisine.
Influencing policy: We advocate on behalf of the communities we work with, giving them a voice on the local and international stage, and ensuring their interests and concerns are considered at the highest level.
Empowering Communities: Local ownership of development initiatives is paramount for success. By prioritizing individual and community involvement, decisions are made collaboratively, with consent and active participation. Achieving this requires strong partnerships between national and local governments, working hand in hand with the people they serve.
Fostering Sustainable Development: Following the wisdom of the proverb 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime,' READI is dedicated to creating a self-reliant and prosperous Nepal. While much development aid has historically focused on providing immediate relief, our approach is centered on empowering individuals with the skills and resources they need to thrive independently. We prioritize building human capital capable of self-sustainability and productivity for a brighter future. This includes a focus on local products, promoting their utilization and marketability, and nurturing valuable local skills.
Harnessing Technological Progress: The modern era is characterized by rapid technological advancement, which plays a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and reliability across various domains. Without embracing technological innovations, societal development remains a daunting task. The challenging living conditions in regions like Karnali and other rural mountain areas underscore the importance of adopting appropriate technology. At READI, we aspire to bridge the gap between Nepal and the global community by advocating for the integration of modern, reliable technology. We prioritize its application in farming to achieve better yields and higher value production, as well as in education to facilitate more effective and efficient learning experiences
Social Transformation: People’s self-reliance is suppressed by conditions such as corruption, armed conflict, racism and the subjugation of women. These are all rooted in our age-old and nearly universal patriarchal mindset that must be transformed as part of a fundamental shift in the way society is organized.
Empowerment: In the face of social suppression, focused and sustained action is required to awaken people to the possibility of self-reliance, to build confidence, and to organize communities to take charge of their own development.
